The Sardine in the Box: Caye Caulker

Habanero is supposedly one of the best restaurants in Caye Caulker and is the favourite of Tripadvisor's contributors. It was our worst experience in Belize, and probably also the most expensive one.

The menu looked promising, but the result was far from good and we did not like the food at all. All the dishes were served with such a sweet marinade that it wasted the taste of everything else. To add to our disappointment, we paid a total of 200 USD for four people which is four times the price we paid at other places in Caye Caulker. A very pretentious venue with a chef who is obviously tried to punch above his weight.

Sandro Take Away, Caye Caulker, Belize

Sandro is an Italian entrepreneur who settled in Caye Caulker after selling his company. He now runs a small eatery, which is only opened for dinner (5pm to 10pm), and cooks delicious pasta imported from Italy and fish and lobster he has caught in the morning. The place is relaxed and quite. One can eat al fresco with the company of the house's dog. Ingredients are fresh and tasteful. A delicious blend of Italian and Caribbean simplicity.

Everywhere in lovely Caye Caulker, people offer grilled freshly caught lobster for 10 USD. That is certainly the best value for money option in the island and you should not hesitate to go for it.

The Reef Restaurant, San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize

Before leaving Ambergris to Caye Caulker, we stopped at the Reef Restaurant to have a quick lunch with feet in the sand. We had the traditional ceviche, and lobster prepared in all possible ways. Yummy.
