Club Gascon, London, UK

Monsieur Sardine does not exactly remember what he ate. But he remembers what he drank (as it often happens). According to him, the wine was absolutely delicious and still it was an unclassified "Vin de Table". "Please go and buy it from their cellar if you can or just try it if you go for dinner/lunch: Vin de Table, Domaine Les Terres Inconnues 2009, Languedoc."

Overall, the tasting menu offered very good value for money for a Michelin-star restaurant. Service was spot-on and the Sommelier understood our expectations and went for the cheeky unexpected Vin de Table. We always appreciate when the Sommelier does not just push for the big names and tries to introduce some of his discoveries.

The menu uses seasonal ingredients and some traditional French classics (duck, pigeon, snails, etc.). Our experience was enjoyable with very nicely done main courses.

On a negative note (to find one), we have been slightly let down by the appetizers which had some of the problems of the new cuisine: a funny texture and little taste. The dessert was a white chocolate bar on strawberry granite, and again here, the taste could have been more powerful.

Positive review for Le Club Gascon, certainly the best (French) restaurant around the highly enjoyable Smithfield Market.

Dinner Tasting Menu: 55GBP (or 85GBP with pairing wines).
