L'Autre Pied, London, UK

Sometimes, it can be worth opening one of the spam-like advertising e-mails with poetic titles such as "special deals", "48 hours sales", "50% off".
Indeed, last week I clicked on an email from Lastminute, which was offering a 5-course meal at the Michelin star restaurant L'Autre Pied in Marylebone for 21£ pp. As I would never miss an opportunity to find an excuse to go to the restaurant, I booked a table for 2 for lunch.

And it was a great deal!
We paid 70£ for two, for the 5-course spring menu and a very good glass of red wine (Quinta do Tourais Tourinio 2008).
That was what we paid the day before for a Sichuan hotpot in Chinatown, that was far from good.

Cold brandade croquette,
tartare sauce, baby wood sorrel

Chilled carrot and ginger soup, blood orange,
crystallized ginger, coriander cress

Slow cooked pork belly, potato fondant,
peas à la française, tarragon jus

Elderflower and mint granita, raspberry sorbet

Milk chocolate mousse,
Thai basil ice cream

The potato fondant with its roast garlic was particularly tasty. The pork belly was nicely crispy but slightly too fat.
We loved the desserts, especially the basil ice cream which went perfectly with the melting chocolate mousse. Yummy.

5-course spring tasting menu: 21 £ with the Lastminute offer
4-course seasonal tasting menu: 44.95£, plus 28£ for pairing wines
